Broken Water Main Affects Student Housing

A break in a city water main early Friday morning affected more than 600 students in the Marchetti East and West Towers and the Grand Forest Apartments. The break in the 20-inch pipe occurred west of the Drury Rally Plaza between Chaifetz Arena and the baseball fields, causing a loss of water service in the three buildings.

City Water Department crews and SLU facilities staff arrived on the scene before dawn to begin assessing the situation and start repairs. Students waking up were alerted to the situation by Housing and Residence Life personnel and encouraged to take advantage of cooling opportunities in Busch Student Center, the Center for Global Citizenship, Pius XII Memorial Library and cool off or shower at Simon Recreation Center.

Work continued throughout the afternoon and the water is expected to be back on sometime Friday evening.

Higher purpose. Greater good.
