Students must register in NR-N595-06, "Special Study for Exams," for 0 credit hours in the semester in which they plan to graduate. This lets the Master's Candidacy Advisor from Graduate Education know which students anticipate graduating, and it also precedes the oral exam.
How do students apply for graduation?
- The student contacts a Candidacy Advisor. Please click here to view contact information.
- After the Application for Degree is completed, Candidacy Papers will be mailed to the student. This consists of two sheets. The first sheet lists the courses that the student has registered for through Graduate Education. The second sheet lists requirements that need to be fulfilled before the degree is conferred and it provides space to list which faculty members are on the committee for the oral exam (and thesis defense for research students). The committee members are chosen by the student. The student, advisor, and Director of the Master's Program sign this sheet. These forms must then be sent back to Ms Philippone in Graduate Education.
- When the Candidacy Papers have been turned in, the oral exam (or thesis) ballots will be mailed to the committee chair and the oral exam may be scheduled. Deadlines are early! The deadline for the Application for Degree is toward the beginning of the semester and the Candidacy Papers deadline is around mid-semester. Specific deadline dates are listed in the graduate education link below. Be sure to look them up!
