Teaching: I coordinate the Nursing of Children Graduate Specialty and teach primarily in the clinical courses which include Health Promotion, Advanced Clinical Studies: Nursing of Children, and Advanced Practice Nursing: Seminar & Practicum.
Research: My research interests include: prevention of obesity in children, promotion of physical activity in children, and use of of complementary and alternative therapies in children. I was part of a work group that contributed to the HEAT (Healthy Eating and Activity Together) Initiative that developed the Clinical Practice Guideline for Identifying and Preventing Obesity in Children (NAPAP, 2006).
Practice: I am certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner and work one day/week at a neighborhood health clinic in St. Louis City. In this role, I see both well and sick children and teens.
Professional and Scholarly Activity: I have been involved in the St. Louis Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners for several years. I currently serve as the Membership Chair. In this capacity, I am involved in many activities including the biennial salary survey of area pediatric nurse practitioners. (See www.slapnap.org).
