Gail Pittroff joined the Saint Louis University School of Nursing in August of 2013. She teaches in the undergraduate accelerated program and interprofessional education courses. She also teaches an End of Life Elective in the undergraduate program.

Practice:  Dr. Pittroff has a 33 year history in nursing practice including critical care, maternal newborn, nursing administration & hospice and palliative care. She has spent the last 10 years developing expertise in palliative care nursing and nursing education.

Research and Scholarly Activities:  Dr. Pittroff's research interests include palliative care nursing with particular attention to spiritual care, communication and the psychosocial aspects of holistic palliative care.

  • Dr. Pittroff's dissertation,"The Cultivation and Practice of Spiritual Care Expertise in an Inpatient Palliative Setting was funded by the Goldfarb School of Nursing Research Fund and Sigma Theta Tau International Tau Iota Chapter in 2010.
  • Dr. Pittroff was also funded through Missouri Baptist Medical Center for a collaborative staff/faculty grant # 938 to research "Preferences to Receive Information about Palliative Care for Adult Patients" 2012.
