Teaching: Margaret has been teaching at the School of Nursing since 1992. During that time she taught the undergraduate traditional option adult medical surgical content; and, clinically supervised students in critical care units. Over the last 18 years Margaret has been teaching in the master's nurse practitioner program and is responsible for the theory content related to advanced health assessment and clinical decision making, principles of practice management , clinical management courses, content in clinical management classes as well as clinical supervision of the nurse practitioner students. Recently she has been working on the development of the preceptor orientation program for graduate on line courses. Prior to coming to Saint Louis University, Margaret taught at Texas Christian University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Antelope Valley College.

Practice: Margaret is certified as an adult nurse practitioner. As such she works two half days a week in the Parkview Clinic, with the Saint Louis Housing Authority seeing elderly and disabled clients. She has previously worked as a nurse practitioner at the Myrtle Hilliard Davis Comprehensive health Center and the Saint Patrick Center Health Clinic. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Margaret worked as a cardiovascular clinical specialist at Saint Louis University Hospital, University of Kentucky and in the ER, ICU

Professional and Scholarly Activities: Margaret has attended a variety of nursing educational events both nationally and internationally and helps plan the Annual Advanced Practice Nursing Conference and Workshops at Saint Louis University School of Nursing where she presents workshops on office procedures. She also has been employed as an expert and testified in numerous cases involving nursing issues.

Margaret is an active board member of the St Patrick Center where she has served as chair of the programs committee, a member of the advocacy committee and is currently the co-chair of the Community Resources group of the Board of Trustees. She has a strong commitment to helping the underserved in the community and is a champion for the homeless no more cause.

In 2012, Margaret was appointed by Governor Jay Nixon as the first nurse in the State of Missouri to the Missouri Health Net Oversight Committee. Margaret also received a commendation award for volunteerism from President Obama for service to the community. She is a recipient of the St Louis Magazine/ Excellence in Nursing Award in 2013 with a perfect score as well as the 2014 AANP State Excellence Award. Additionally, Margaret won the 2014 March of Dimes Nurse of the year award in the Educator Category.
