Teaching: I coordinate the Family Nurse Practitioner program and teach in several clinical courses including Primary Health Care: Adolescents and Adults, Advanced Health Assessment, and Advanced Practice Nursing: Seminar and Practicum. I provide clinical supervision to FNP students during their preceptoring experiences and academic advising related to the FNP program.
Practice: I am a board certified family nurse practitioner and women's health nurse practitioner and work one day/week at Barnes-Jewish Hospital OB-GYN clinic. I also work one weekend/month at Take-Care Health Systems clinics, located in some of the Walgreen stores. I provide prenatal and well-woman care to low income women in the area, care for adults and children with episodic illnesses, and work to improve health care literacy within the community.
Professional and Scholarly Activities: I am a member of the American Academy of Nursing Practitioners, the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, and Sigma Theta Tau International. Locally, I am a member of St. Louis Nurses in Advanced Practice, St. Louis Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, the Maternal, Child, and Family Health Coalition, Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University Perinatal HIV Task Force, Saint Louis University's Delta Lambda Chapter and Maryville University's Omnicron Iota Chapter of STTI.
Research: My research interests include the study of preventive health care practices of adults, with an emphasis on women's health. I have a particular interest in mothering intentions of HIV-infected women and how intentions are shaped by illness, meanings of mothering, and their social world. I am currently involved in a project to improve outcomes of health care delivery practices in a local hospital-based clinic.
