Administration: Dr. Murray is Dean of the School of Nursing.
Teaching: Dr. Murray has several years of experience teaching in academic nursing education. She has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels of nursing education.
Practice: Dr. Murray's area of clinical expertise is in Community Health Nursing. She worked as a public health and home health nurse. She served on the state of Missouri's Minority Health Advisory Committee which designs, implements, and evaluates community-driven strategies to eliminate health disparities in disadvantaged populations.
Research & Scholarly Activities: Dr. Murray's program of scholarship focuses on the influence of the various innovative educational pedagogies used to promote student learning facilitate transition to the practice arena, and provide safe, patient-centered, evidence-based care, such that the health status of individuals, families, communities, and populations is improved. As a public health nurse, she advocates for accessible, quality, and affordable health care for disadvantaged groups to eliminate healthcare disparities and inequities. Her research & policy interests are focused on the social determinants of health, population health, and the interplay between social environment and health outcomes to achieve individual and community level health equity.

Dr. Murray was recently appointed to the National Advisory Council for Nurse Education and Practice by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. The National Advisory Council advises the Secretary and Congress on matters related to workforce development for nursing education and congress. She is a former member of the Missouri State Board of Nursing where she served as president, chaired the task force to establish the Minimum Standards for Nursing Education in the state of Missouri, and served as the Missouri delegate to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. As a delegate, Dr. Murray was involved in the examination, formulation, implementation, and evaluation of policy for nursing education and practice in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five United States territories. In addition, Dr. Murray served on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) task force to establish the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education used by 700+ nursing education programs, served as AACN Board Member-at-large and Chaired the AACN Government Affairs Committee. She currently serves as Board Treasurer for AACN. Other noteworthy appointments include serving on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's (RWJF) National Advisory Council for New Careers in Nursing Program which offers scholarships to recruit students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds and the RWJF Doctoral Advancement in Nursing Committee. Dr. Murray serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Nursing Education and is a reviewer for several professional nursing journals. Dr. Murray is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing, RWJF Executive Nurse Fellows, and the Salute to Excellence Healthcare Award for Stellar Performance. Dr. Murray has presented nationally, published in journals and textbooks and has demonstrated success in external funding. Dr. Murray is a member of American Nurses Association, Missouri Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Midwest Nursing Research Society.
