That’s right, the American Dietetic Association’s annual Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo is right around the corner and I thought I’d share some amazing experiences from last year’s Boston showcase. Who knew a professional meeting could harbor such enthusiasm and empowerment for the field of Dietetics? The moment you walk into the grand space you know it’s going to be impressive. As an eager student, and a not-quite-yet credentialed RD or DTR, clipping that badge onto your “dressed to impress” clad self gives you a feeling of accomplishment.

If you missed out on visiting one of our country’s most historic cities last year, well rest easy, California’s jewel, San Diego is graciously hosting FNCE 2011. Although last year’s chilly New England weather reflected the true Bostonian experience, many are looking forward to a little fun in the sun. San Diego boasts many dining opportunities and tourist activities, not to mention breathtaking views at every step, and that my friend doesn’t cost a nickel.

Tens of thousands Registered Dietitians, Diet Techs and aspiring students gather together each year to discover the latest and greatest in current research, trends in the field and new products. Yes, it is indeed a smorgasbord of symposiums, incredible lectures and vendors galore. What’s the best part about being a student and attending FNCE? The student registration price is a plus, but it is the camaraderie that develops between you and your peers. The conference takes place during the grueling fall semester and FNCE is just what the Doctor, err, Dietitian ordered.
