Welcome to the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy!
Our department was established in 1992, and we graduated our first class of twenty-nine occupational therapists in 1996. In 2004 we established one of the first Bachelors of Science in Occupational Science degree programs. We have quickly grown in numbers and stature, and in 2014 we were proud to graduate over 100 Baccalaureate and Masters degree students committed to serving humanity as women and men for others. This growth can be attributed to our remarkable faculty's devotion to helping our students fulfill their career goals.
Our programs are based on our collective commitment to excellence in education, the generation of knowledge, service to humanity, centered on the life transforming power of occupation for higher purpose and greater good. Our curricula promote individualized and small learning group opportunities within the classes and community/field work that are committed to teaching, in the Jesuit tradition, the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Every student is paired with a faculty mentor and encouraged to seek their guidance throughout the programs. Along with this faculty partnership are opportunities for research, practice and service projects that facilitate student learning within faculty members' scholarship ultimately to meet the occupational needs of individuals across the lifespan.
The MOT program is accredited by The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) and ranked 36 of all occupational therapy graduate schools in US News & World Report, May 2012.
