Winter Session FAQs

The Saint Louis University  School for Professional Studies offers an online winter session from December 20, 2017 to January 14, 2018.

The session includes five introductory classes from a variety of disciplines and topics:

  • CIS 1150: Concepts and Applications of Technology
  • PSYK 1010: General Psychology
  • HIST 1125: Origins of the Modern World – 1500 to Present
  • THEO 1005: Theological Foundations
  • ARTH 1005: Approaching the Arts: Visual

All classes are offered exclusively online. Students may take only one course during the winter session. Each class is three credit hours.

What are the benefits of a winter session?

Participating in our optional winter session allows undergraduate students both online and on our physical campus to take courses required to complete their degree in a flexible way that fits into their schedule. 

Can winter session be taken on campus?

As with all of our classes at the School for Professional Studies, the winter session will be offered entirely online.

Who can enroll in classes during the winter session?

The winter session is open to all current students at the School for Professional Studies, as well as to undergraduate students at Saint Louis University. No first time, visiting or Madrid students are permitted to take classes through the winter session.  

Will I be able to contact my academic adviser during the winter session?

An academic adviser at the School for Professional Studies will be able to answer any questions students have during the winter session. Contact Debra Blanquart at 314-977-3347 or at for assistance.


Registration and Class Information

When can I sign up for classes and how many credits may I take?

Registration is now open for the winter session via Banner Self-Service. If you need assistance finding classes or registering, you may also contact your academic adviser. Students may take only one course during the winter session. Each class offered in the winter session is three credit hours.

When will registration close?

The registration period for the winter session opens October 16, 2017 and closes December 10, 2017.

Where can I get my textbooks? 

Students can acquire textbooks at the Saint Louis University Bookstore located in the Busch Student Center on campus. To  purchase textbooks online or for store hours during the winter session, please visit their website

Will there be final exams during winter session?

Consult the class syllabus for specifics on all class information, including assignments and examinations.


Tuition and Fees

What are the tuition and fees for the winter session?

Winter session tuition for the 2017-18 academic year is $640 per credit hour. There are no additional fees.

Is financial aid available?

Financial aid is available on a limited basis for the winter session, and payment plans can be made through Student Financial Services at Saint Louis University. Contact Student Financial Services at 314-977-2350 or

Will I be refunded if I drop a class during the winter session?

The tuition refund schedule for winter session is as follows:

Withdrawal/Drop Dates

  • Dec. 27, 2017 – 100 percent refund
  • Dec. 28 – Jan. 3 – 60 percent refund
  • Jan. 4 – No refund/Last day to drop


Campus Facilities

Students have access to certain campus facilities during the winter session. Below are the special hours for each building. 

Pius Library

Winter Recess Hours

Pius Library will be closed Dec. 23, 2017 through Jan. 1, 2018 and Jan. 15, 2018. It will otherwise observe the following hours during SLU's winter recess: 

  • Sunday -  Closed
  • Monday through Friday - 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Simon Recreation Center

Simon Recreation Center will be closed December 25, 2017 through January 1, 2018. It will otherwise observe the following hours:  

Sunday 10 a.m. - 12 a.m.
Monday - Thursday 6 a.m. - 12 a.m.
Friday 6 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
