Frequently Asked Questions about ASL

Q. How do I become a member?
A. If you meet the ASL SPS requirements, the ASL SPS Delta chapter will extend an invitation to you prior to the annual spring induction ceremony.

Q. What are the ASL SPS requirements?
A. You must be an SPS student with a minimum SLU cumulative GPA of 3.2, minimum of 30 credit hours at SLU with a minimum of 15 of those 30 credit hours outside of your major.

Q. Is there a membership fee?
A. No.

Q. Is ASL a local or national honor society?
A. It is a national honor society, with approximately 200 chapters throughout the United States.

Q. What prompted the development of ASL?
A. It was created to recognize those dedicated adult students who have achieved academic excellence while handling other life responsibilities including work, family and community.

Q. When was ASL founded?/
A. In 1945 by Dr. Rollin B. Posey, Dean of University College at Northwestern University.

Q. How many current members does the SPS Delta chapter have?
A. We have 116 current members.

Q. When are SPS Delta chapter officers elected?
A. In the spring prior to the annual induction ceremony.

Q. Who is eligible to be an SPS Delta chapter officer?
A. Current members who are enrolled in classes are eligible.
