The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice offers students Bachelor of Arts degrees in the fields of Sociology and Criminal Justice. The social sciences are the study of human society and the methods and means by which different segments of society relate to each other. Our department offers a variety of activities and extracurricular activities that its students can get involved in. The Association of Criminal Justice and Sociology (ACJS) is the department's student organization. ACJS is run completely by students and they hold many conferences throughout the year to introduce students to possible careers in the fields of Criminal Justice and Sociology. Past guest speakers have included FBI Agents, lawyers and investigators from the Missouri Attorney General's Office, and other federal agencies. In addition to ACJS, the department has recently been granted charters within two National Honor Societies: Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) and Alpha Phi Sigma (APS). Qualified Sociology majors can become members of AKD while qualified Criminal Justice majors can become members of APS. Our department has worked very hard in conjunction with the student association in providing resources and increasing the variety and number of classes offered.
