SPORTS

If you are interested in becoming personally involved in the sport of your choice, a good place to start would be the Simon Rec Center on campus. The facilities are outstanding, and there is a good intramural program. The Rec Center supports basketball, racquetball, squash, volleyball, running, tennis, weightlifting, swimming, and more. The Rec Center has recently been refurbished. The weight room has many of the latest exercise machines, comparable to a health club. Free weights have also been added to the collection of equipment as well as the much-needed air conditioning. For those interested in running on an outdoor track, the soccer field is surrounded by a modern rubberized track 1/3 of a mile around.

BASEBALL

BASKETBALL
There is no professional basketball team in St. Louis, but the St. Louis Billikens offer an exciting and inexpensive alternative. The men play their home games at the Kiel Center, the women play in the West Pine Gym.

BOWLING
The Bowling Hall of Fame      111 Stadium Plaza (next to Busch stadium)      231-6340
Not the place to go bowling on a Thursday night, but they have an impressive collection of bowling shirts. Die-hard bowling enthusiasts shouldn't miss this. For cheap lanes, you can't beat Busch Memorial Center.

CYCLING
There are three notable paved trails around the area. The 10 K asphalt trail around Forest Park has good scenery for a city park. The Great River Road from Alton to Grafton, IL (20 mi), which follows the banks of the Mississippi and Illinois River, is flat easy riding with the area's best scenery, but has occasional motor vehicle traffic. The Katy Trail is very popular trail and travels along the Missouri River for many dozens of miles. The nearest access point is in St. Charles. Ask your local bike shop for maps. Inquire about areas which have been damaged by flooding, as many are not yet usable.

FOOTBALL
The Rams are in St. Louis! Going into their third season in St. Louis in the Fall of 1997 we've got high hopes for them. The new coach Dick Vermeil will hopefully get the Rams back into contention for the championship. Check out the Rams homepage.

RUGBY
There are many Rugby clubs in the St. Louis area. Most games are played in Forest Park next to the tennis courts. Forest Park is also the home of the Saint Louis University Rugby Club.

RUNNING
The St. Louis Track Club (781-3926) is a non-exclusive running club for runners of all levels and ages. Membership is $25 per year. The St. Louis Track Club sponsors many events throughout the year. This is a good way to get together with other runners and let the miles roll by.

SOCCER
647-1001
The Saint Louis University soccer team is a perennial contender, and recently have been ranked in the top ten. The St. Louis Ambush is the professional team who play their games at the Kiel Center.
