Bellydance LessonsISF is proud to sponsor Bellydance Lessons. Belly Dance is a form of middle eastern dance that dates back thousands of years. It is as empowering as it is beautiful and as fun as it is sexy. The SLU Belly Dance Club teaches this ancient dance in both its traditional and modern versions. The instructors focus on the versatility of the dance, incorporating not only middle eastern music but also popular music like Shakira and Nelly Furtado. The class focuses on fitness as well as instruction, with each class being a workout as well as a lot of fun. The club meets extracurricularly as well, performing dances learned during the semester, seeing other Saint Louis performers and frequently hanging out together. The instructors are current SLU students with several years of belly dancing experience each and come from different schools of the dance. In the Arabic language belly dance is known as raqs sharqi (literally "oriental dance") or sometimes raqs baladi (literally "national" or "folk" dance). The term raqs sharqi may have originated in Egypt. In Greece and the Balkans, belly dance is called tsiftetelli. Meeting times: Wednesday 3:30 - 5:30, Friday 3:30 - 5:30 Where?
