Nationwide, Kappa Delta is extremely dedicated to giving back to the community.

Our four national philanthropies are: Girl Scouts of the USA; Prevent Child Abuse America; Children's Hospital, Richmond, Virginia; and Orthopaedic Awards.

The Zeta Iota chapter actively participates in and contributes to all four of these causes. Below, you will find a more detailed look at how we help these organizations.

Girl Scouts of the USA

Kappa Delta announced its official partnership with the Girl Scouts in 1998. Since then, Kappa Deltas across the country have collaborated with the Girl Scouts in many different ways. Numerous chapters, including Zeta Iota, have adopted troops of their own.

The Zeta Iota chapter participates with its Girl Scout troop in many different ways, such as: a scavenger hunt held on SLU's campus; various etiquitte seminars and workshops; Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine's Day celebrations; visits to local museums; and of course a trip to the St. Louis Arch.

Prevent Child Abuse America

Since 1984, Kappa Deltas have hosted Shamrock Events, raising money through an assortment activities, all to aide the prevention of child abuse. Eighty-percent of the money raised is donated to local child-abuse prevention agencies, and the remaining 20-percent is donated to PCAA's national office for its national programs.

The Zeta Iota chapter hosts an entire week of fundraising activities called Shamrock Week, featuring many different events, such as:
ShamROCK concert ;
Mr. Shamrock Pageant: fraternities on campus enter one representative who competes to win the title of Mr. Shamrock by outperforming all other contestants in a talent competition and Q&A session;
Pizza After Dark : Kappa Delta sells pizza from midnight-3:00 AM outside nearby, late-night student hangouts;
Cream a KD: for a dollar or two, SLU students can throw a pie at any of the lucky volunteers, who include presidents and members of all Greek organizations, among others

Children's Hospital
Richmond, Virginia

In 1921, Kappa Deltas in Virginia became interested in work done by William Tate Graham, M.D. to treat polio victims. Graham was famous for his revolutionary approaches to medicine and respected for never turning a patient away due to financial struggles. Kappa Delta made a commitment to help, beginning with the donation of two hospital beds.

Still, more than 75 years later, no patients are turned away for financial reasons, and the Children's Hospital now treats all types of children's problems. Kappa Delta remains a primary supporter of the Children's Hospital by donating the funds to build an operating room, develop a clinic, and buy a van to transport patients. Additionally, many Kappa Deltas serve on the hospital's boards.

Orthopaedic Awards

Kappa Delta Sorority presents three annual Orthopaedic Research Awards to recognize outstanding research in orthopaedics and enable the researchers to continue their efforts. Known as the "Nobel Prize of Orthopaedic Research," the $20,000 awards were first presented in 1950 and have become the most coveted awards in this field.
