How To Join
Any Catholic man wishing to join our Council can talk to any member, or inquire by email to firstname.lastname@example.org
. All candidates must fill out a questionnaire and meet with the Chancellor or another officer of the Recruitment Committee. The purpose of the questionnaire and brief
meeting is to ensure that the candidate is in compliance with the Requirements for Membership, which are as follows:
- Male at least 18 years of age
- In unity with the Holy See
- A practical Catholic who strives to be obedient to the Commandments of God and follow the Precepts of the Church
The Chancellor or other officers will also make sure that the candidate for initiation has all of the necessary information to attend the First Degree Ceremony and is aware of all paper work and dues that must be turned in.
This is also a good opportunity for the candidate to raise any questions, concerns, or expectations that he has about the Council!
To become a member of the Knights of Columbus, one is initiated via the 1st Degree Ceremony. These ceremonies occur throughout the year on campus and around the St. Louis area, so just let us know when you are available!
The 2nd and 3rd Degrees are taken together, and there is no time restraint between the 1st and 2nd/ 3rd degrees. Again, there are many opportunities to receive these degrees, so simply let an officer know if you want to move up in the Order.
Any Third Degree member in good standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible for membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "assemblies"). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus.
