These tapes are a prayerbook in sound. For some people who are
no longer able to read their prayers or perhaps to say their
breviary themselves, these cassettes may be an absolute
necessity. The sick, the elderly, the visually impaired, the
incapacitated, the convalescing, and the dying can still pray the
psalms as recorded on these cassettes. Some nursing homes use
these tapes routinely. These practical aids to prayer have proved
to be a most effective and consoling therapy.
For other people, these tapes may be just another extremely
helpful way to begin to pray. Psalms are for busy people who have
less time to pray. With cassettes, prayer can be as simple and
easy as turning on your tape recorder. Sometimes the problem of
praying is getting started, shifting gears when you have time,
trying to concentrate, finding words to fit where you are, helping
your mind and heart to get where you want to go.
No matter where you are, in the kitchen or the car, resting or
jogging, at home or at work, usually there is some kind of tape
player that can be made available. Turn on your recorder and
instantly you are surrounded by the best prayers of the Old and
New Testaments. The psalms immediately set the scene for prayer.
With little need for preparation or preambles, they get to the
point and lift your mind and heat directly to God! Then you will
find yourself caught up in praise, gratitude, petition, longing,
joy, sorrow, repentance, grief, love, peace, and union with God.
