What is considered a Meal?

A meal is an all-you-care-to-eat meal at Reinert and Griesedieck Dining Halls. Other popular on-campus dining spots allow students to use a meal swipe from 5-10 pm. These locations include: Billiken Club and Grill, Qdoba, Subway, and Grille Works. All meal plans are "block" style and can be used at any time throughout the semester. Unused meal swipes at the end of each semester will be forfeited.

What is Flex?

Flex dollars come with all meal plans and are used to purchase food. Flex can be used at all DineSLU locations, and should be used at times when an all-you-care-to-eat meal is not what you have in mind. For a complete list of locations, visit http://slu.campusdish.com

Any unused flex at the end of the fall semester will carry over to the spring semester. Any unused flex at the end of the academic year will be forfeited.

What if I want more Flex?

If you are running low on Flex and want to add more, you can add Bonus Flex. Bonus Flex is just like Flex, with three exceptions: you buy these funds in addition to your meal plan, these funds do not expire at the end of the semester, and an additional "bonus" is then added to the student's Bonus Flex account. These funds can only be used to purchase food. Students who have a residential meal plan will receive a 25% bonus, and students who have a commuter meal plan will receive a 10% bonus.

What are Billiken Bucks?

Billiken Bucks is a debit account plan. The funds that you deposit can be used for purchases at the Instructional Media Center, Bannister House, Saint Louis University Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Library (copying/printing), Information Technology Services-software sales, and all University DineSLU locations. Billiken Bucks may also be used at various off campus vendors. For a list of off-campus vendors, visit click here. Billiken Bucks never expire. You may close your account at any time by submitting your request in writing.

Am I required to have a meal plan?

All students living in campus housing, regardless of current course load, and any commuter student who is classified full-time taking at least 12 credit hours will automatically be assigned a meal plan each semester. This meal plan is charged to your tuition account, preloaded onto your SLU Card and becomes active on move-in day.

St. Louis University requires all students living in a residence hall to purchase a Meal Plan. The University, in unique circumstances, may exempt a student from the required meal plan for documented medical conditions or religious dietary observance. It should be noted that all documentation must be submitted according to the exemption application in order for a request to be considered for that semester.

Any student commuting, or residing in an on-campus apartment are required to have a commuter meal plan. These meal plans are declining balance plans and are loaded with $200 Flex dollars. Unused balances will carry over from Fall to Spring semester, but not to summer sessions or the following academic year. The University, in unique circumstances, may exempt a student from the required commuter meal plan for documented conditions. The Commuter Meal Plan Exemption Request is due no later than two weeks after the start of the semester for which the exemption is being requested.

Does my meal plan expire?

Although flex roll over from the fall semester to the spring semester, meal swipes expire at the end of the semester. Any unused flex at the end of the Spring semester, will expire.
