SLU-SSM Residency Program Overview

The SLU-SSM Physical Therapy Orthopedic Residency is a 12-month (August to August) post-professional program designed to advance the knowledge, skills, and attributes of licensed physical therapists in orthopedics as described by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists’ Description of Specialty Practice. Education encompasses didactic and psychomotor instruction at Saint Louis University and SSM Physical Therapy in face to face, online, and small group formats. The resident participates in mentored patient care with expert clinicians at both Saint Louis University and SSM Physical Therapy in orthopedic settings. The graduates of this residency are prepared to sit for the Orthopedic Specialty Examination (OCS). Program highlights include:

  • Direct 1:1 clinical mentoring
  • Compensation (including benefits) for non mentored hours of patient care
  • Participation as lab instructor in SLU-DPT entry level program
  • Small group classroom and manual skills instruction, facilitated discussion, and journal club
  • Independent mentorship in specialty topics within field of orthopedics
  • Clinic rounding, surgery observation and grand rounds with physicians
  • Preparation for the OCS Exam
