SLU Group Continues Challenge to Finish Historic Text That is Taking Years to Complete

ST. LOUIS - For those who thought "War and Peace" was a big book, they’ve never seen "Summa Theologiae," one of the world’s most respected philosophical works. Revered theologian St. Thomas Aquinas’ most noted work will be read, in part, by members of the Saint Louis University community during an all-day marathon event this Friday.

For five years, members of SLU’s philosophy club, as well as others, have spent an entire day reading the text, which is written in question-and-answer format and addresses every classical philosophical issue: the meaning of life, the existence and nature and God, and what happens after death. In nine hours, the SLU group expects to read less than a 10th of the multi-volume manuscript. At this pace, future club members should read the final question in 2010.

WHO: Philosophy club of Saint Louis University

WHAT: The fifth-annual "Summa-thon"

WHEN: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26.

WHERE: Room 142 of the Humanities Building, 3800 Lindell Blvd.

INFO: The event is open to the public. For more information, call 977-7189.
