Labovitz Named Director of Cardiology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine

ST. LOUIS - Arthur J. Labovitz, M.D. has been named director of the division of cardiology in the department of internal medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Labovitz has been on staff at Saint Louis University since 1981, when he began a fellowship here.

Dr. Labovitz is an accomplished clinical cardiologist with nationally recognized expertise in the area of echocardiography. An echocardiogram is a painless test that provides a picture of the four chambers and four valves of the heart using high-frequency sound waves rather than radiation. He is an established investigator in this field and has trained numerous fellows who have gone on to successful careers in academic medicine and practice.

Dr. Labovitz holds a leadership role in numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Echocardiography and the American College of Cardiology.

Saint Louis University's division of cardiology was ranked 22nd out of the 6,299 hospitals in the United States in this year's U.S.News & World Report ratings of U.S. hospitals. Dr. Labovitz aims to build upon the strong tradition of excellence the division of cardiology has established over the previous 25 years.

"I look forward to further enhancing efforts by our physicians and staff in their research work and clinical practice," Dr. Labovitz said. "We will strive to continue to be at the forefront of technology and advances in cardiology that can improve outcomes for patients."
