SES Academic Advising

Saint Louis University Student Educational Services (SES) takes a holistic approach to student advising that involves understanding the students' academic and social needs as a foundation for developing strong, personal connections.

SES advisers stay in frequent contact with students to establish the familiarity and trust that encourages timely feedback on educational progress and allows advisers to conduct assessments and help students set goals.

SES advisers work with students to develop successful strategies for graduation and beyond in support of Saint Louis University's Integrated Advising System.

Advising Registration Process for Students in SES

Students advised through Student Educational Services (SES) are expected to meet with their academic adviser regularly throughout the semester. At the third or fourth advising meeting, you should come prepared to discuss pre-registration for the upcoming semester.

The pre-registration process includes:

  • Scheduling appointments with your academic adviser.
  • Determining which courses need to be completed for your degree program. Do this by checking requirements specified in the course catalog and determining which of the needed courses are offered in the next term by searching the class schedule.
  • Completing a tentative schedule of courses and bringing it with you to each appointment (include the time and day of week, the CRN number for the course, and your major).
  • Meeting with your faculty mentor (if applicable).
  • Modifying your tentative schedule in consultation with your adviser, based on feedback from the faculty mentor.
  • Being providing with a registration PIN by your adviser upon completion of course planning.
  • Following the University's registration procedures to complete registration.
