In joining Student Support Services, students gain another valuable set of resources to help them with their success at Saint Louis University. Services are available to first generation college students, as well as those who come from a modest income household or who have a learning or physical disability.
To join SSS, students must meet one of the following criteria:
This means neither parent has graduated from a four-year institution. Parents can have attended college, but not graduated and you will still be considered first-generation. Additionally, parents can have an associate's degree, but not a bachelor's degree and you are still considered first-generation.
We determine this based on federal guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Education. Your status is based on the number of people in your household (as reported on the FAFSA/taxes) and your household's taxable income.
To qualify on the basis of a learning or physical disability, students must first be registered with disability services at SLU.
Each SSS student is assigned an academic adviser within SSS who can help them navigate the University and figure out the best plan for them. The benefit of having an adviser in SSS, as well as your academic program, is that each of our advisers serves a smaller number of students, allowing them to spend more time with you in each appointment and see you more frequently during the year.
Other services available to our students include:
To become part of the SSS program at Saint Louis University, students must complete an application and submit either an income verification form or the family’s tax return from the previous year. Per our federal regulations we required prior year taxable income and family size to determine eligibility. If you are an independent student, per the FAFSA, then you will not need to provide parent information.
We require both the application and financial documentation for all students, regardless of how you qualify for the program. If you (or your family) have any questions or concerns around providing one of these pieces, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.
Once complete, you can submit your application by emailing it to firstname.lastname@example.org, or mailing or delivering it in person to:TRiO-Student Support Services
