Saint Louis University

Students can choose almost any major and be part of the pre-professional health studies program. Whether you want to become a physician, dentist, veterinarian, optometrist, or podiatrist, SLU's Pre-Professional Health Studies Office will help tailor a program of study to help you reach your goals.

It is strongly recommended that you complete all pre-health prerequisite courses at a four-year university in a physical classroom. Often online courses and courses taken from a two-year college are not accepted by health professions schools. In many cases, professional schools will not accept online credit as well. We encourage students to take all of their pre-health courses in physical classrooms at 4-year universities.

What should you major in?

You should choose a major that meets your interests and goals. Professional schools require you to complete some pre-requisite courses, but they do not require certain majors. In fact, they like to see students with well-rounded backgrounds, including humanities courses that develop the communication skills essential in the practice of health professions.  Check out some of the majors that SLU has to offer!

It is important to succeed academically in all science courses to meet professional school requirements must do well in those courses to make sure they are prepared for their future studies.
