A Message From the President

Dr. Marcia Buresch has been appointed assistant dean of Saint Louis University's Graduate School. For the past nine years, she has served as the director of University marketing. Buresch replaces Dr. Rosetta Moore, who retired earlier this summer. Moore was named assistant dean in 1990 and associate dean in 1995. Buresch will be responsible for enrollment management for the Graduate School, which includes marketing, recruitment and admissions. "We are very fortunate to have been able to hire Marcia as assistant graduate dean for admissions," said Dr. Donald Brennan, dean of the Graduate School. "Most people know Marcia in her role as the University's director of marketing, but they don't realize that for the last 10 years she has served the University in a number of roles, including academic positions. Her broad knowledge of the University, coupled with her excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, made her an outstanding candidate for the position. She also received her Ph.D. in higher education here and thus brings a consumer perspective to her new position." Buresch has more than 25 years of experience working in both the worlds of business and academia. In business, she worked in management, marketing and media sales, including CBS-TV; and in academia, in teaching, faculty development and curriculum planning. She joined the University full-time in 1987 as academic program coordinator for the University's former Metropolitan College. "Most graduate departments cite help with recruiting and marketing as their second greatest area of need for support from the Graduate School," Brennan said. "This is a perfect match for Marcia's outstanding marketing skills. "Dr. Rosetta Moore did an outstanding job of networking with Historically Black Colleges and Universities that resulted in a substantial increase in the enrollment and graduation of African-American graduate students. Marcia shares this strong commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for under-represented minority groups." Buresch received her bachelor's degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, her master's degree from Siena Heights College in Adrian, Mich., and her doctorate in higher education administration from Saint Louis University.
