A Message From the President
|
Don Whelan has been appointed interim vice president for development and university relations through June 30, 1998. Most recently, Whelan was associate vice president for university development. Prior to that he was executive director of Health Sciences Center development. He joined the development staff in 1988 and has 11 years of experience in the field. Whelan is responsible for all development and alumni program operations. One of his immediate challenges will be to oversee the successful completion of the $200 million Campaign for Saint Louis University: Our Promise for the Future in the Jesuit Tradition. "We already have a very strong and very loyal donor base, both from individuals and the corporate community, and I'd like to build on that," Whelan said. "We have a number of clear-cut goals in sight, and I'm looking forward to working with the development and alumni programs staff as we search for new and creative ways in which to involve alumni and raise money for the University. " "I will be working closely with Don and intend to remain extensively involved in development and university relations as we complete the campaign and plan for the future," said University President Lawrence Biondi, SJ. All of the departments and reporting structures will remain the same, except that John Kerr, associate vice president for university public relations, will report directly to Biondi. Whelan's appointment follows the resignation of Bob Gordon, who left the University in May to accept a position in California.
