Tebb Named Dean of School of Social Service

Dr. Susan C. Tebb has been named dean of the School of Social Service. Tebb had served as interim dean of the school since 1996 and has been a member of the faculty since 1992.

"Dr. Tebb has done an exemplary job as interim dean of the School of Social Service," said Michael Garanzini, SJ, academic vice president. "We are thrilled that she has accepted this appointment as full-time dean, and I am confident that she will continue to offer the school the same leadership she provided during the past year."

Before coming to Saint Louis University, she served on the faculty of the University of Kansas and Chapman College at Beale Air Force Base in Marysville, Calif.

"This is an exciting time to be involved in the profession of social work," Tebb said. "We are training students for an unknown future with welfare reform and managed care now a part of a social worker's everyday life. The school also is in transition. There are the many possibilities that the Center for Social Justice Education and Research opens up to the St. Louis community, students and faculty. With retirements and new faculty hires, the school is becoming a faculty that better represents the students and clients we serve. Transitions are challenging but also exciting, and I look forward to being part of the faculty that takes the school into the 21st century."

Tebb has more than 25 years of clinical experience in various social work positions at Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center, Children's Home Society of California, New West Dialysis, Catholic Community Service, St. Luke's Hospital, West Suburban Kidney Center, University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago Foundlings Home, Criterion Hospital and Maternity Home, and the American Red Cross.

Tebb is the author of Coping Successfully: Cognitive Strategies for Older Caregivers and is co-author of The Unity and Diversity of Single Parent Families: Practice from the Strengths Perspective and Feminist Social Work Practice in Clinical Setting: A Case Book.
