A Message From the President

Plan now to take some time for yourself this school year by attending one of the weekend retreats offered by campus ministry. A new overnight format is featured this fall. John Foley, SJ, will direct the Nov. 1-2 retreat, "The Saints and Us Ordinary Folk." The retreat will offer an opportunity to reflect on the communion of saints, our relationship to them, and how we might follow their example. The retreat will enhance Christians' celebration of the Feast of All Saints and the Feast of All Souls, observed that weekend. Foley, a nationally known composer and musician, is director for the Center for Liturgy, located at the University. The November retreat will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. with a continental breakfast and conclude Sunday with a 2 p.m. liturgy. The spring retreat is scheduled Feb. 27 through March 1. "Renewing Our Hearts for the Journey" will be led by Dominicans Mary Margaret Pazdan and Michael Mascari. The weekend will provide an opportunity for reflection on the scriptures central to the Church's observance of Lent. Pazdan is associate professor of biblical studies at Aquinas Institute of Theology, and Mascari is professor of systematics at Aquinas. The spring retreat will follow the familiar two-night format, beginning Friday at 7:30 p.m. and concluding Sunday by noon. Both retreats will be at Fordyce Education and Conference Center. The cost is $40 per person. Space is limited, so early reservations are suggested. For more information, call 977-2428.
