  1. Why is a copy of Walden placed on the mantle of the entryway to O'Brien House on the Frost campus?

    The house is named after Dr. J.J. O'Brien, professor emeritus of pedagogy, who always told students that if he could bring only one book to a desert island, it would be Henry David Thoreau's Walden.

  2. What year was Saint Louis University's graduate school established?

    1832.

  3. Name the man, later to become a Massachusetts Senator, who delivered the University's commencement address in 1968.

    Dr. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, then with MIT and Harvard.

  4. What U.S. first lady delivered the University's commencement address in 1990.

    Barbara Bush. Her husband George delivered the University's commencement address in 1987 when he was vice president.

  5. A former chancellor of Austria served on the University's faculty from 1948 to 1966. Name him.

    Dr. Kurt von Schuschnigg, professor of political science. He was Austrian chancellor when Hitler's forces took over the country in 1938. He came to the University after serving seven years in Nazi imprisonment.
