- Q: I supervise an employee who is very dependable and always performs her job in an outstanding manner. I want to reward her by reclassifying her and giving her a promotion and a raise. What is the proper procedure?
- A: Jobs, not people, are classified. Reclassification of a job can occur only when the duties of the job have substantially changed. The performance of an employee in a specific job does not change the classification and pay grade assignment. Job performance is reviewed annually in advance of employees being granted merit increases to recognize their contributions. Qualified employees should be considered for promotions when jobs assigned to higher pay grades become available within the department.
- Q: My last day of employment with the University is coming up. Will my last paycheck automatically be deposited into my bank account?
- A: Staff members are urged to schedule an exit interview with their campus human resources office. Exit interviews serve as a guide to help improve future University/staff relations as well as provide information to employees regarding their final check, benefits, etc. Final paychecks cannot automatically be deposited into the employee's bank account. Employees need to let human resources know if they want to pick up their final check or have it mailed certified (return receipt requested) to their home address.
