SLU Stars

The Staff Advisory Committee is pleased to announce the latest staff member to be selected as a "SLU Star." This employee is being honored because a fellow member of the University community praised her for recent instances in which she performed "above and beyond" and demonstrated the Ignatian ideals of magis, a striving for excellence, and cura personalis, a personal concern and respect for others. Using the nominator's own words, the committee congratulates this month's SLU Star.

Betty Bailey (adult health nursing): "During the first two weeks of August, the third floor of the nursing building received new carpeting, and faculty offices were painted. Betty took the initiative to coordinate these activities and, because some faculty were on vacation, she packed and moved their books and other materials. By the time all faculty returned for the fall semester and the students arrived, the third floor was back to normal. Because Betty Bailey was concerned for faculty, students and the environment, she excelled in working with the painter and carpet installers for a smooth and timely completion of the work. The activities noted above were far beyond Betty's usual responsibilities, which include providing administrative and secretarial support for graduate and undergraduate faculty (of which two are department chairpersons)."

The Staff Advisory Committee is seeking "SLU Star" nominations for next month. The selection committee welcomes nominations from any member of the University community. Employees eligible to receive a SLU Star are those who perform staff and administrative functions. This includes supervisors, administrators and faculty who are administrators. Nomination forms are available from any campus human resources office. Questions concerning the program can be addressed to Lynn Chase, chairperson of the Staff Advisory Committee, at 577-8594.
