Alan B. Hanson, professor emeritus of theatre arts, died Feb. 10. He was 76.
Mr. Hanson had a lengthy career in theater and television arts. He appeared on the RKO Circuit with the Children's Review between the ages of 5 and 13. After receiving the Margaret McCleery Award at the Pasadena Playhouse in California, he obtained a bachelor's degree in drama at Fordham University and a maser's degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. During his stay in New York, he was cited by a leading publication as having one of the 10 best off-Broadway productions of the 1949-50 season.
Mr. Hanson later moved to the west coast, where he was employed by NBC to direct live telecasts of Matinee Theatre and Adventures of Elery Queen and by CBS to direct the daytime soap opera Full Circle. During his career he appeared in and directed numerous productions and worked as a weekend news director at Channel 5 between 1962 and 1972.
Mr. Hanson joined the faculty in 1952 and worked here until 1956. He rejoined the University as an assistant professor in 1962 and retired as a full professor in 1985. He was chair of the theatre department at the time of his retirement.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan, and three children.
William Evans Douthit, a former member of the board of trustees and the President's Council of Saint Louis University, died Jan. 18. He was 72.
Mr. Douthit headed the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis for 21 years. Douthit also was a former trustee of Blue Cross, John Burroughs School and Washington Tabernacle AME Zion church in St. Louis.
A memorial service was held Jan. 24 at Busch Memorial Center.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Douthit; a son, William A. Douthit; two daughters, Char Riley and Helen Douthit Devoros; a brother, John Patterson Douthit; a sister, Delores Nelson; and three grandsons.

- Dr. Neil E. Seitz, dean of the School of Business and Administration, on the death of his father, Mr. Everett Seitz, on Feb. 10.
- Sean-Thomas Morrissey, a seismic field engineer in the department of earth and atmospheric sciences, on the death of his father, Mr. Thomas G. Morrissey, on Jan. 12.
