LIFESAVER: Oliver Helbig, assistant director of public safety, was
named Lifesaver of the Month for January by the local chapter of the
American Red Cross. Helbig saved public safety officer Michael J.
Johnson from choking during a Christmas luncheon on Dec. 17. "I
noticed Michael turning pale," Helbig said. "He looked at me and his
eyes were big. I asked him if he was OK, and he shook his head. I
performed the Heimlich maneuver once, and he still couldn't breathe,
so I did it again and he began to breathe on his own." KSDK
meteorologist John Fuller (left) presented Helbig with a plaque
honoring his lifesaving efforts. (Photo by Larry King)
