PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Basketball Times, Basketball Weekly and The Sporting News named Saint Louis University guard Larry Hughes as its National Freshman of the Year. Hughes also was selected to the Basketball Times All-America Second Team and was named Conference USA's Freshman of the Year. "Larry has played extremely well this season and has earned every award he has received," said head coach Charlie Spoonhour. "We're most proud of the way he has handled all of the media attention created by his immediate celebrity status." In addition to these honors, Hughes also was named to the NABC All-District 12 First Team, which makes him eligible on the NABC All-America ballot. Hughes and teammate Matt Baniak were selected to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. Hughes also was named to the Conference USA First Team.

STEADY IMPROVEMENT: The women's basketball team finished the season with a 13-14 mark overall and a 5-11 record in Conference USA. This represents the most wins for the team since the 1985-86 team ended the season at 16-10. The team has improved its record each year under third-year head coach Jill Pizzotti. Senior Shatoya Likely finished her career at the University as the all-time leading scorer with 1,545 points.
