PEDIATRIC NEWS: Karen S. Wicks has been appointed director of development for the Pediatric Research Institute (PRI). Wicks' primary job will be to promote the institute's research and to help establish the PRI's presence in the community. Wicks comes from Washington State University, where she served as the assistant director of college relations for the college of engineering and architecture. She has 16 years of marketing experience that includes five years in higher education development. "We are very pleased to have Karen Wicks join us," said C. George Ray, M.D., professor and chairman of pediatrics. "She brings a strong background of experience and knowledge that we need to help achieve our goals for the PRI."

Last year SSM Health Care/Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital joined the School of Medicine to cooperatively support the PRI for the next five years. Since its inception, the PRI has blended the special strengths of both Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital and Saint Louis University to establish an interactive scientific research milieu that promotes the health and welfare of children. In August 1997, the Cardinal Glennon Pediatric Research Institute Foundation was established. The foundation board, with equal representation from Saint Louis University, SSM and the community, is establishing a strategic plan and serves as the oversight authority for all foundation programs.
