Development Leaders in Place

Don Whelan can scratch the world "interim" from his title.

University President Lawrence Biondi, SJ, announced last month that Whelan has been appointed vice president for development and university relations, effective immediately.

Whelan had been interim vice president since June 1. Before that, he was associate vice president for university development. He joined the university development staff in 1988 and has served in various capacities, including executive director of Health Sciences Center development.

"I will continue to work closely with Don to plan for the future and to maximize our potential for fund raising at Saint Louis University," Biondi said. "Please join me in supporting Don and the entire division as he begins this challenging assignment."

Whelan wasted no time in filling the position of associate vice president, appointing Jim Forst to the job just days later. Forst has 18 years of development experience, the last 10 at Washington University, where he is senior director of development for the School of Engineering and Applied Science.

"Jim will be responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of the development office," Whelan said. "He will help broaden the University's base of support while building on the success of our recently completed campaign. In addition, Jim will be a major gift fund raiser responsible for managing his own portfolio of top prospects."

Forst begins his new job on April 1.
