Physician Starts Online Medical Journal
Brendan C. Stack Jr., M.D., assistant professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, has been appointed as the founding co-editor of the International On-Line Journal of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The journal can be found at www.orl-hns.org.
The new journal contains full text of clinical reviews, new research developments, commentary and case studies with full graphics. It allows for reader interaction with the editorial board and article authors and supplies readers with links for further resources. The site also offers continuing medical education (CME) credits for otolaryngologists, the ear, nose, and throat specialists. (They also are referred to as ENT physicians.)
"There is nothing else like this on the Internet," Stack said. "Although the primary niche is for private physician otolaryngologists, we will have a section for other physicians and the general community so they will better understand the latest in the field of ear, nose and throat physicians."
In addition, the general community is able to link to the National Library of Medicine as a resource. There also is information on specific support groups for various head and neck cancers and disorders.
The online journal made its debut in March and will be updated continuously through physician interaction. A new journal will be published every two months. Neal D. Futran, M.D., D.M.D., department of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of WashingtonÐSeattle, shares the editorial duties with Stack.
