WELCOME ABOARD: Amy Cherubini has been named assistant coach for the women's basketball team. Cherubini spent the last two seasons with the Atlanta Glory of the ABL. Before that she was an assistant coach at Michigan following a four-year career as a player at Indiana. "I'm excited about the program and its potential," Cherubini said of the Billikens. "With Coach [Jill] Pizzotti at the helm, it is definitely headed in the right direction. I'm looking forward to working with her, the staff and the players." Cherubini will focus on recruiting, scouting and guard play.

GRAND SLAM: Junior tennis player Eliza Gano has been named to the Arthur Ashe Jr. Academic All-America First Team. The team consists of top minority athletes from around the country. "This is a tremendous honor for Eliza," said tennis coach Skip Salzenstein. "She has worked hard to get to where she is today, and she is truly deserving of this award. Arthur Ashe was one of the greatest contributors to this sport, and his legacy lives on through this award."

KANSAS AT KIEL: The men's basketball team will host defending Big 12 champion Kansas in a non-conference, nationally televised game by ESPN from Kiel Center at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23. "The Kansas game fits within our philosophy of trying to bring the most attractive and exciting schedule possible to the college basketball fans in the St. Louis metropolitan region," Woolard said. "A game of this magnitude brings the type of national exposure that we're always seeking for our basketball program." The Kansas game will be a part of the season ticket package. Single-game information will be available at a later date.

GOLF NEWS: Golf coach Russell Brightman has resigned to concentrate on his position as director of sales and marketing for the RiverCity Basketball Club, St. Charles' Continental Basketball Association expansion team. Brightman began the position in January of this year.

SPORTS INFORMATION: Chuck Yahng has joined the University as assistant sports information director. Yahng is the primary contact for Billiken volleyball and baseball and for a variety of the Billikens' 10 olympic sports. Before coming to the University, Yahng was the sports information director at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for two years. He also has experience in media relations for a variety of special events. Yahng worked the boxing venue at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and worked the basketball, taekwando and track and field venues at the 1994 Olympic Festival in St. Louis. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from Washington University and his master's degree in business administration from Lindenwood College.
