Parks College of Engineering and Aviation students have a new employment option thanks to a pilot hiring agreement with Trans States Airlines.
The college recently entered the agreement, which provides an opportunity for selected Parks students to obtain employment with Trans States Airlines immediately upon graduation.
"It is a major change for an airline to contemplate this, and we view it as an endorsement of the quality of our education and training programs," said Alan J. Stolzer, associate dean of Parks.
The Trans States Transition Program creates a partnership between Trans States airlines, Parks College and Central Missouri State University that allows students to move from collegiate professional pilot educational programs to employment with Trans States Airlines.
The benefits for Trans States include improving the quality of the newly hired pilots, stabilizing the pilot pool by having a screened and prepared cadre of potential new pilots and reducing training attrition.
To qualify for the program, Parks students must have completed the first semester of their junior year in the bachelor of science degree program in aviation science/professional pilot with a 2.75 or above grade point average. Applicants then are interviewed by a joint Trans States Airlines and University screening committee. Successful applicants are given a written, conditional offer of employment pending completion of the program.
After six months of employment following completion of the program, Trans States will provide confidential feedback to the universities. The information will be used to refine and improve university programs.
