The Staff Advisory Committee is pleased to announce the latest staff members to be selected as "SLU Stars." These employees are being honored because fellow members of the University community praised them for recent instances in which they performed "above and beyond" and demonstrated the Ignatian ideals of magis, a striving for excellence, and cura personalis, a personal concern and respect for others. Using the nominators' own words, the committee congratulates this month's SLU Stars.
Tim E. Moser (systems analyst, Information Technology Services): "Tim Moser is a former employee of our division, and I have always heard wonderful things about him. Everything I heard has been proved true since August. Our division is responsible for fund raising, public relations and alumni relations. We communicate with alumni, students, parents and friends using the telephone, direct mail, personal visits and special events. To keep communicating we need to be able to access our database. In August our programmer resigned, and Tim graciously became the person who cajoles the data out of the database and gives it to us in a useable format. Without this assistance our entire division would slowly grind to a halt. Tim has been our ÔBand-Aid,' and on behalf of everyone in development and university relations, I want to thank him publicly for his outstanding service to all of us! He has been invaluable to our division, and we are fortunate to have him as part of our University family!"
Mary Boles (theological studies): "Throughout the summer, the faculty and department packed and moved from Verhaegen Hall (after 25 years there) to the new Humanities Building. Mary Boles oversaw the organizing, packing and moving with contagious good cheer and generosity. When movers were late to pick up faculty computers, Mary Ôcamped out' on Lindell Boulevard in the August heat with her cellular phone and water until they arrived. When needed, she drove in her car articles too precious to box. She came in on Saturday to make sure the movers Ôdid it right' and took the right boxes and articles for the faculty. She then organized the new space so she could be available for faculty who would have to unpack. With constant good cheer and friendly service, she displayed the care and service of the Ignatian ideals."
The selection committee welcomes nominations from any member of the University community. Employees eligible to receive a SLU Star are those who perform staff and administrative functions. This includes supervisors, administrators and faculty who are administrators. Nomination forms are available from any campus human resources office. Questions concerning the program can be addressed to Debbie Farmer, chairwoman of the Staff Advisory Committee, at farmerdk@slu.edu.
