Grand Connections

Saint Louis University

Dr. Thomas F. Moberg joined Saint Louis University earlier this month as its first-ever chief information officer.

"Tom Moberg is an ideal match with Saint Louis University," said James R. Kimmey, M.D., executive vice president. "His emphasis on involving the academic community in the planning for the technology infrastructure of the future will be key to his success here. He has the experience and skills to take us to the next level in information technology."

Moberg has more than 20 years of technology management experience. He has served as vice president for information resources for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in Washington, D.C., as well as at Kenyon College in Ohio. Moberg played a key role in the inception and development of information technology programs at these institutions, as well as at Grinnell College in Iowa.

"I sought out a university that had clearly articulated an ambitious strategic goal: to be the finest Catholic university in the country," Moberg said. "I hope to make a contribution to Saint Louis University by leading the efforts to envision an information technology environment consistent with technology trends and the institutional mission, and then couple that vision with appropriate strategies and goals. I am especially pleased to be at a university with such a highly regarded School of Medicine, which will offer me an opportunity to share some of my experiences from AAMC."

Moberg also has served as chairman of the board of CAUSE, the international association for professionals in higher education information technology. Moberg has made numerous professional presentations, consulted, taught and published. He received his doctorate in statistics from the University of Iowa.

"Saint Louis University has been recognized as one of the 'most wired' (computer connected) universities in the country," said interim Provost Sandra Johnson. "With his experience as an educator and technology leader, Dr. Moberg will further enhance our capabilities in the classroom, in research and in distance learning. We are looking forward to working with him."
