SOUP'S ON: Campus ministry's next Soup with Substance program is scheduled for Thursday, March 4, when Ed Martin, director of the human rights office of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, will present a Christian perspective on service and public life in light of the recent presidential impeachment process. Soup is served at noon in the Argentum Room of Busch Memorial Center. All faculty, staff and students are welcome. For more information, call campus ministry at 977-2428.

WOMEN'S COMMISSION: The Women's Commission is sponsoring a visit by nationally known author and businesswoman Carol Orsborn. She will present "The Resilient Woman: Redefining Success in Changing Times" at noon Friday, March 5, in the St. Louis Room of Busch Memorial Center. Orsborn also will present a workshop at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 6. She is the author of eight books about success and spirituality and will be available to sign her books at the lecture. Several of Orsborn's books, including Solved by Sunset, The Art of Resilience and her latest release, Return From Exile, are available in the University Bookstore. Orsborn's lecture is free and open to the public. The workshop fee is $35 per person. For more information, call 977-2212.

NOW ON DISPLAY: The MacLennan Gallery of Asian Art is featuring an exhibition of art by Ling-Wen Tsai. "Migration" integrates Tsai's work with the gallery's permanent collection, allowing her to present her ideas on the influence of her Taiwanese background. The exhibit also reflects Tsai's belief that both the traditional and contemporary can describe the same subtle observations of the world. "Migration" will be on display through Friday, March 26, and the exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information, call 977-3399.


FACT BOOK: The office of public relations now has available A Profile, a booklet of facts about Saint Louis University. The comprehensive booklet includes updated information on enrollment, scholarships and financial aid, academics, research and SLUCare, among others. TWILIGHT RETREAT: Dr. Belden Lane, professor of theological studies and holder of the Hotfelder Chair of the Humanities, will lead the Lenten Twilight Retreat for faculty and staff from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Jesuit Hall. The title of the evening's program is "Desert Passage: A Call to Silence and Renewal." The evening opens with a simple meal; there also is time for personal and communal prayer. The cost is $5. BUTLER'S PANTRY: The butler's pantry at Samuel Cupples House has been restored to its original design (circa 1888). It features a copper butler's sink, period gas/electric lighting, elegant cabinetry and a silver safe. An eyesore for many years, the restored butler's pantry offers a behind-the-scenes look at how servants maintained the 44-room residence. For more information, call 977-3025.

LAST HOPE: Members of the University community are invited to attend an exhibit, "ÔYou Are My Last Hope': American Relief for Germany, 1945-1950," now on display at the Saint Louis University archives on the third floor of the Pius XII Memorial Library. The exhibit features the papers of Louis E. Alewel, a lifelong St. Louisan who took his German-American heritage seriously. He was instrumental in creating the St. Louis Relief Effort for Central Europe to help combat the desperate conditions in Germany at the close of World War II. The exhibit, which runs through mid-March, is free and open to the public. The archives are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOS: An exhibition of award-winning architectural photography will be on display in the McNamee Gallery of Samuel Cupples House March 5 to 28. The exhibition is co-sponsored by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and AIA-St. Louis. Since 1985 the groups have co-sponsored a national competition in architectural photography. The 14 winning images and a selection of other images that were entered in the competition will be on display. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, and admission is free. For more information, call 977-3025.

REUNION DATES: Plans are under way for Saint Louis University reunion weekends this fall. On the weekend of Sept. 17 to 19, reunions of all University undergraduate schools, the School or Law, the School of Dentistry and the Black Alumni Association will be held. The School of Medicine will celebrate reunions on the weekend of Oct. 14 to 16. The alumni relations office is accepting nominations for the 1999 Alumni Merit Awards presented by each school. The alumni relations staff also is seeking reunion class chairs (alumni who graduated in years ending in a 4 or a 9) who are willing to encourage classmates to return to campus for reunion weekend. If you are interested in nominating an alum, or would like to help plan a reunion, please call 977-2250.

COMING SOON: Off the Cuff, a professional theater company, has relocated its "Mainstage Theatre" to Xavier Hall. The group's first production on campus will be David Mamet's Broadway hit, The Old Neighborhood. The play examines a middle-aged man who must deal with his past before living his present. The Old Neighborhood will be presented at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, March 5 and 6, 12 and 13, and 19 and 20. Sunday matinees will begin at 2 p.m. on March 7, 14 and 21. PR CLUB: Saint Louis University's Public Relations Club provides students the opportunity to gain practical experience through hands-on activities and to network with public relations professionals. The club is considering applications from University-related groups that need general public relations guidance or would like help promoting an event. The club will choose an organization and will generate promotional ideas and assist in the execution of public relations plans for the group free of charge. The PR Club also is sponsoring "Professional-Amateur Day" from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, in Busch Memorial Center. Activities will include seminars, a speaker's series, mock interviews, a rŽsumŽ session, lunch and a keynote speaker. The activity fee is $20 per person, and lunch is $15. HR ON THE WEB: The University's human resources World Wide Web site offers visitors a comprehensive staff openings list, which allows applicants to click on a position and view the job description. The site also features the HRS calendar, the text of the Staff Handbook, answers to frequently asked questions and information on policies. Soon the site will include a faculty openings list, as well as information on benefits, compensation, employment, employee relations and professional training. REUNION GIVING: Kerri Sklar has joined the University as reunion giving program director in the division of development and university relations. She is a graduate of Bradley University, where she worked as an annual fund supervisor. Most recently, Sklar was the manager of annual gifts at the St. Louis Zoo. She also has worked in the development offices at Washington University. Sklar's office is DuBourg Hall, Room 32, and she can be reached at 977-3783.

DE LUBAC LECTURE: The fourth annual De Lubac Lecture was held Feb. 11 and featured Fr. Joseph A. Komonchak, who spoke on the topic "Vatican II as an Event." Komonchak is a priest of the Archdiocese of New York and holds the John and Gertrude Hubbard Chair in Religious Studies at The Catholic University of America. The lecture was sponsored by the department of theological studies and the office of University mission and ministry.
