Complementing its ongoing Project SLU2000 efforts, Saint Louis University has received a $150,000 grant from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
Project SLU2000 is a $100 million initiative that aims to achieve heightened academic credentials for entering freshmen, sustained improvements in student retention, increased success in research, and an enhanced campus environment and infrastructure. The initiative also will provide 100 additional assistantships for graduate students during the next three years.
The grant will help to create The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation Program for the Assessment, Evaluation and Dissemination of the Project SLU2000 Pedagogy Enhancement Program (PEP). PEP will directly affect 1,400 undergraduate students annually by establishing 100 new inquiry courses taught by experienced and highly motivated senior full-time faculty.
"The program will enhance the learning experience of beginning undergraduate students by improving pedagogy, reducing student-faculty ratios, creating smaller classes and increasing interaction between students and faculty," said associate provost Dr. Ellen Harshman.
This partnership with the Hewlett Foundation will allow the University to assure ongoing faculty development in the area of learning outcomes by providing systemic evaluation of PEP and continuous feedback to faculty through the development of a dynamic learning community.
