Humphrey Wins Bruemmer Award
|
Kathy Humphrey, interim vice provost for student development, is this year's winner of the Mary A. Bruemmer Award.
Established in 1980, the award is named after Mary Bruemmer, former dean of student affairs and a current SLU volunteer. It is awarded annually to the faculty member, staff member or administrator who has done the most to improve student life and enhance the Saint Louis University experience.
A formal presentation of the honor was made at the Student Leadership and Service Awards program.
"I felt extremely honored to know that students felt that I had served them in a way that deserved to be rewarded," Humphrey said. "I have received many awards in my career, but the awards that mean the most to me are the awards given to me by the students that I have had the pleasure to serve."
Before her current position, Humphrey served as director of residence life and associate vice provost for student development and formation. The award recognized Humphrey for her dedication to student issues and concerns, her devotion to making such events as the campus concert and campus pub a reality during her term, and her love and support to all students in addition to her family.
"The SGA has been fortunate to be able to work with Vice Provost Humphrey," said Student Government Association President Jay Perry. "She has listened to student ideas and opinions on various issues and has always responded quickly and positively."
The Student Government Association also announced the recipient of this year's Joseph F. Hodes Student of the Year Award. Senior Jason Sengheiser was named Student of the Year at the SGA Senate's April 19 meeting.
Sengheiser, a senior, has served throughout this academic year as general manager of KSLU Radio and also has carried various responsibilities in the Student Activities Board and the Student Government Association. He was a key player in this year's first major campus concert that brought the groups Citizen King and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones to campus, in addition to transforming KSLU radio into a more receptive and inclusive organization.
The Joseph F. Hodes Student of the Year award, established in 1998, is named after Joseph Hodes, a past president of the Student Government Association. It is presented to the student who has done the most to improve student and campus life, living the Jesuit call to be "men and women for others."
