New Director for
General Internal Medicine
Joins Saint Louis University

George T. Griffing, M.D., has been appointed director of the division of general internal medicine at the School of Medicine. Coy D. Fitch, M.D., chairman of the department of internal medicine, made the announcement.

Griffing comes to Saint Louis University from the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Medicine. There he was a professor of medicine, director of the section of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism, and director of the Cosmopolitan International Diabetes Center.

Griffing's primary research interests are endocrine hypertension and AIDS, and he has provided more than 100 scientific articles and 66 abstracts based on his research studies. He also has been principal investigator for a number of clinical research studies, including an IND application for intranasal insulin.

Griffing is an editorial consultant to the New England Journal of Medicine, Hypertension, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and other medical journals.

In 1998, he was named to the list of The Best Doctors in America. Griffing earned his medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and completed his medical training at Boston City Hospital.
