Lorenzo Romar was named the new men's basketball coach earlier this year. A former player in the National Basketball Association, Romar gives his views on the "Top 10" basketball players of all time. They are in alphabetical order.
By Lorenzo Romar
* Kareem Abdul-Jabbar -- Had the unstoppable sky hook that led him to be the NBA's all-time leading scorer.
Elgin Baylor -- Was years before his time and was the original high-wire act.
* Larry Bird -- There may never have been a smarter, more competitive player. His psych-outs of opposing players are legendary.
Wilt Chamberlain -- He dominated whatever phase of the game that he chose to focus on and was renowned for incredible feats of strength.
Julius Erving -- Carried the ABA on his back, and his talent forced the merger with the NBA. His dunks in the ABA's All-Star dunk contest still set the standard.
* Magic Johnson -- The leader of the Lakers' "Showtime" dynasty in the '80s and the master of the no-look pass made passing the ball fashionable again.
* Michael Jordan -- Arguably the greatest all-around player ever to lace them up. He could beat you at either end of the floor.
Oscar Robertson -- No one else has ever averaged a triple-double (double digits in points, assists and rebounds) in the NBA.
Bill Russell -- The most dominant defensive force in the game's history and the foundation of all the great Celtic championship teams during the '60s.
Jerry West -- Mr. Clutch.
* Indicates players Romar competed against in the NBA.
