- Q: How much group life insurance do I have?
A: A simple way to check your personal life insurance amount is to look at your payroll check stub. All full-time employees are enrolled automatically for an amount equal to one times your annual base salary. The plan also offers an additional one, two or three times salary, to a maximum of $400,000, through payroll deduction. Most plan participants have some additional life insurance, which is indicated on the payroll check stub as "1X Life," "2X Life" or "3X Life." If you have "2X Life" on your check stub, you are enrolled for two times your salary, plus the basic one times salary benefit provided by the University, bringing the total benefit to three times your annual salary.
- Q:I am an hourly paid employee. Can my supervisor require me to work more than eight hours a day?
A: Yes, an hourly paid employee can be required to work more than eight hours in a day. However, when that employee has worked more than 40 hours in a pay week, overtime must be paid. Supervisors should give as much advance notice as possible when any of their subordinates are going to have to work more hours than normally expected.
