Cookbook Sales Benefit
Local Minority Scholars

A cookbook now on sale will benefit minority scholarships in the department of nutrition and dietetics. To get a copy of the Healthy Futures Cookbook, call Joy Short in the department of nutrition and dietetics at 577-8523. Her e-mail address is shortje@slu.edu.

Production of the cookbook was funded by the American Dietetic Association as a part of a program to increase minority recruitment though interaction with community churches. This project represents a partnership between the department and two predominately African-American churches:Temple Complex and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

The cookbook includes recipes from church members and department of nutrition and dietetics staff, students, faculty and alumni. The recipes were analyzed for nutritional content, and each recipe includes a tip for making the recipe healthier.

All funds raised from cookbook sales will be used for scholarships to African- American students from both churches who are entering Saint Louis University's department of nutrition and dietetics.

The cookbook is available for a $7 minimum donation.

In addition, Helpful Hints Books are available. These books contain 150 pages of wonderful tips for all kinds of things including cooking, house keeping and gardening.
