The new SLU history World Wide Web site, Saint Louis University @ the Edge of Change," introduces visitors to Saint Louis University's rich Jesuit history. Through a series of 21 vignettes and accompanyingz pictures, "Saint Louis University-At the Edge of Change" tells SLU's story from the opening of St. Louis College by Bishop DuBourg and the arrival of the first Jesuits to the additions of the schools of Medicine, Law and Commerce, to the University's involvement in social issues, such as the integration of African Americans and women into the student body, to the University's present position as a national university. The web site is a joint project between Human Resources and Pius XII Memorial Library, Archives. It began as a slide presentation of Saint Louis University's history that was shown at new employee orientations. It was clear, however, that this presentation would interest staff and faculty, both new and old, as well as students, their parents and alumni. Thus, the SLU History web site was born. This web site places the University within an historical context and shows how its Jesuit and Catholic tradition distinguishes it among the other institutions of higher education.
