Dr. Elizabeth A. Baker (public health) has received a two-year, $603,695 grant from the American Cancer Society for a study titled "Prevention in Context: The Impact of Social, Community and Neighborhood Factors." Baker's study will examine the roles of social, neighborhood and organizational assets in cancer prevention programs in underserved communities.
Dr. Matthew W. Kreuter (public health) has received a three-year, $490,176 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for a study titled "Segmentation Strategies for Health Communication." Kreuter will evaluate the relative effectiveness and cost effectiveness of four types of health communication magazines designed to increase physical activity.
Dr. Govindaswamy Chinnadurai (molecular virology) has received a five-year grant award for $929,970 from the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute. Chinnadurai's research is titled "Apoptosis Regulation by Viral and Cellular Proteins."
Dr. Kathleen S. Wright (public health) received a one-year, $70,000 ASPH/CDC/ASTDR Cooperative Agreement for a project titled "Public Health Leadership and Workforce Development." This is the seventh year that Wright has coordinated this national project and network of leadership training institutes.
Dr. Ranjit Ray (infectious diseases and immunology) has received a three-year grant for $150,000 from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Ray's research is titled "The Role of Hepatitis C Virus Core Protein in Hepatocyte Growth Regulation." He also has received a five-year grant for $683,674 from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. The research will focus on developing a vaccine for the hepatitis C virus.
Dr. Claudette Klein (biochemistry and molecular biology) has received a two-year grant for $70,000 from the American Heart Association Ð Heartland Affiliate. Klein's research is titled "Nitric Oxide Regulation Adenylyl Cyclase."
Dr. Duane P. Grandgenett (molecular virology) has received a five-year grant renewal in the amount of $845,602 from the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute. Grandgenett's research is titled "Avian Retrovirus DNA Synthesis and Integration."
Frank R. Dunphy, M.D. (hematology and oncology) has received a two-year contract award for $201,200 from Ortho Biotech Inc. Dunphy's study is titled "Phase III Randomized Trial of Recombinant Human Erythropoietin (r-HuEPO) 'Early' Vs. 'Late' Administration in Patients Treated with Chemotherapy."
Dr. Tomasz Heyduk (biochemistry and molecular biology) has received a four-year grant renewal award for $689,419 from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of General Medical Sciences. Heyduk's grant title is "Inter and Intramolecular Communications in Transcription."
Dr. Alireza Rezaie (biochemistry and molecular biology) has received a one-year subcontract award for $127,180 from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute/Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. The research will focus on the development of new drugs useful in treating thrombotic (clotting) and hemorrhagic (bleeding) complications.
